Let’s help the people of Beirut come back home quickly

Context

The double explosion that occurred on August 4, 2020 in the heart of Beirut is a true coup de grace to Lebanon, a country that has already been on its knees for several months due to an unprecedented economic, political and health crisis. The human and material tool is colossal.

Emergency and identified risks of shortages render food and medical aids essential. Not only must they be accelerated and amplified, they must also be accompanied by a massive action targeting habitat in order to allow the 300,000 affected people who have found themselves homeless and are deprived of means to come back home.

This is what Windows for Beirut strives for.

Goal

Our main objective is to create the necessary conditions to the swift return of populations to the affected areas of Beirut by focusing on the rehabilitation of their homes, especially facade work (windows, aluminum, waterproofing).

The collection of donations* will finance these repairs which constitute basic necessities that most of the victims are unable to cover (lack of resources, capped bank withdrawals, need to pay craftsmen who import the material in cash using international currency, low rate of non-insurance, uncertainty related to insurance companies covering losses, etc.)

We must act quickly, efficiently and in all transparency.

Method

Created at the initiative of Lara Moutin and Ricardo Karam, a French Lebanese dynamic duet, the foundation  » Windows for Beirut » will call on the know-how of internationally recognized public utility foundation  « Architectes de l’Urgence » (or « Emergency Architects »), which was co-founded in 2001 by Patrick Coulombel. It specializes in technical assistance, particularly in terms of housing victims of natural, technological or human catastrophies. « Architectes de l’Urgence » intervened in around thirty countries including Indonesia and Haiti.
